Summary

  • Microsoft 365 consists of many components, with various combinations provided in the different subscription levels. In addition to Windows 10 or 11 and the Office productivity applications, Microsoft 365 includes additional services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. Enterprise subscriptions also include Azure Active Directory Premium, Microsoft Intune, Azure Information Protection, and Advanced Threat Analytics.
  • Some of the Microsoft 365 components are available as on-premises applications and services. The incentives to use cloud-based rather than on-premises software include reduced initial cost outlays, more frequent feature updates, and high availability.
  • Collaboration is one of the primary focuses of Microsoft 365 products, which are designed to work together to provide a variety of communication channels. Microsoft Teams can function as an information hub for many of the other Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Microsoft Viva is a collection of applications that form what Microsoft calls an employee experience platform (EXP), which is an environment that fosters improved connection, insight, purpose, and growth among an organization’s users.
  • Modern management is an evolution of the traditional IT deployment and support models to emphasize client mobility and cloud-based services and administration.
  • Microsoft 365 includes traditional, installable Office productivity applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as cloud-based services, such as Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams. Compared to the on-premises products, Office 2016 and Office 2019, Microsoft 365 offers many advantages, including more frequent updates, licenses for up to five devices, mobile device support, and cloud-based email and collaboration services.
  • Microsoft 365 is designed to allow users to work anywhere, using any device. By supplying cloud-based collaboration tools and enabling administrators to manage users’ Bring Your Own Device hardware, Microsoft 365 supports a more modern productivity model.
  • The Microsoft 365 Enterprise subscriptions include additional endpoint management and deployment tools, including Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and Azure AD Connect, which enables on-premises Configuration Manager installations to coexist with the Microsoft 365 cloud services.
  • Microsoft 365 includes analytics tools that can gather information from applications and services across the enterprise and use it to anticipate threats and improve worker productivity.
